Former Wimbledon Singles Finalist & World No.12 SABINE LISICKI to Compete at Upcoming CALGARY NATIONAL BANK CHALLENGER

October 4, 2022 — CALGARY (AB) – Today, Calgary National Bank Challenger Tournament Director Danny Da Costa, announced that former World No. 12 Sabine Lisicki of Germany will compete at the Calgary National Bank Challenger from November 6 to 13. The event will take place at the OSTEN & VICTOR Alberta Tennis Centre. Lisicki made her return to the WTA Tour in May 2022 after 18 months on the sidelines with ACL surgery.

“People in Canada are always nice and the crowd at tournaments is amazing which makes it fun to play. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Calgary and look forward to coming for the first time.”, said Lisicki.

A holder of 4 WTA singles titles, Lisicki reached the finals of Wimbledon in 2013 Wimbledon, where she lost to Marion Bartoli. Lisicki also reached the Semi-Finals of Wimbledon in 2011 and Quarterfinals on 3 other occasions (2009, 2012, 2014).

Lisicki has defeated several World #1 singles players in her career including: Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic and Caroline Wozniacki. Lisicki is also the female record holder for the fastest officially recorder serve on the WTA Tour at 131 mph (211 kmph).

Lisicki joins Former World #4 and US Open Singles Finalist Kei Nishikori as the first two confirmed players for the Calgary National Bank Challenger. In his career, Nishikori has wins over Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Milos Raonic. A full player list will be announced within the next 3 weeks.
