October 13 & 14thmarked the first weekend of the inaugural Calgary National Bank Challenger at the OSTEN & VICTOR Alberta Tennis Centre. All matches were free to watch and over 750 Calgarians came out to cheer on the players working towards qualifying for the main draw which starts Monday, October 15, 2018.
Athletes that qualified for the main draw included Tom Fawcett (USA), Vincent Millot (FRA) & Borna Gojo (CRO). There will be one qualifying match on Monday at 10am.
In addition to running multiple matches throughout the weekend, over 100 children played tennis in the sun, Harvey the Hound showed us some tips and tricks and our Honorary Tournament Director, Daniel Nestor, hosted a doubles clinic for adults and a Pro-Am for the Alberta Tennis Centre High Performance Junior Team. The Pro-Am featured tennis legends Ivo Karlovic, Tommy Robredo and Canadian athlete, Steven Diez.
Main draw action starts at on Monday morning, not before 11:30am, and finals will take place on Sunday, October 21, 2018. Three Canadian athletes will take to the court Monday for the evening matches (not before 6pm). Filip Peliwo will take on countryman Pavel Krainik and that will be followed by Steven Diez taking on Jason Jung from Taipei.
